A Legacy of Innovation in Alberta's Energy Landscape
Bryan Helfenbaum has spent 27 years working across the energy industry with an emphasis on innovation & collaboration. He served for almost two decades in private industry, at Imperial Oil and then Devon Energy, across a variety of technical, business, and managerial roles includes hydrocarbon extraction, mergers & acquisitions, and technology piloting. Bryan then moved to Alberta Innovates, rising to the position of Vice President of Energy, Aerospace, Defence, and Advanced Materials.
With his breadth of expertise, Bryan is frequently sought for his knowledge on many areas of innovation including oil & gas production, carbon capture & sequestration, hydrogen, bitumen advanced materials, digital energy, methane emissions reduction, and others. He is a well-known player in the energy ecosystem, serving on the Board of Petroleum Technology Alliance Canada and has worked closely with organizations such as Clean Resource Innovation Network, Energy Futures Lab, University of Alberta, and others. Bryan has worked on novel residential housing solutions and taught courses on operationalizing innovation at the University of Calgary.
Bryan has a degree in Environmental/Chemical Engineering from the University of Waterloo, and a Masters of Business Administration with a specialty in Global Energy Management & Sustainability from the University of Calgary.
